Correspondence Education

The student receives a set of learning materials via mail. The traditional set included textbooks, student guides, and assignments that the student is obliged to do within the specified time. No teacher support is provided. Later this form of learning is combined with the educational radio and TV programs. But in general this form of learning doesn't include any kind of feedback and communication with other participants of the educational process. At those times students and teachers saw each other only within exam sessions. Traditional correspondence education assumes that learners should work with various educational materials received by the mail. The learner also should send back written assignments and results of his individual research activities.

The perception of the quality of online degrees compared to on-campus degrees varies. While most major online colleges are regionally accredited, the public estimation of their quality is in dispute. A national survey of hiring representatives showed that a preference toward on-campus degrees exists. University Accreditation

Walden University has been regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission  and a member of the  North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, a regional accreditation agency, since 1990. Walden's Richard W. Walden University Purpose.

Walden was established in 1970 by two New York teachers, Bernie and Rita Turner, who created a program for working adults to pursue doctoral degrees. In the summer of 1971, the first classes took place in Naples, Florida  focusing primarily on school administrators. These initial classes were to allow the students to form dissertation  topics with their faculty partners before returning home to work at their respective schools while also working on their dissertations. In 1972, Walden conferred its first degrees: 46 PhDs  and 24 Ed,D at its first commencement in Naples, Florida. In 1979, the Minnesota. Higher Education Coordinating Board licensed Walden to grant Ph.D.s and Ed.D.s in the state and in 1982 the school moved its headquarters to Minneapolis.
